I think of learning as a journey, something we do from the moment we draw our first breath. As a teacher, it is a joy to come alongside my students each year and travel with them for a time. I want to help them be courageous in their learning, willing to question, to stretch themselves, to persist when things get hard, know their strengths and learning edges, and to celebrate their accomplishments.

I grew up the baby of a very large family and became a first-time auntie at only 9 years old. As I watched my nephews and nieces grow and learn, they inspired me to become a teacher. I’ve been teaching now for over 10 years and love being a part of guiding and shaping young minds. Many have heard the quote, “to teach is to touch lives,” but the reality is that it goes both ways.

My dream of becoming a teacher began when I was in 4th grade. The teachers in my life had brought so much joy and inspiration, and I decided that this is what I wanted to do with my life as well. It is important to me to get to know each and every student, setting goals and celebrating successes together! This will be my eighth year teaching, with the last seven years teaching 4th Grade… because 4th Grade is the BEST!

I’m excited about the opportunity to teach fourth grade this year. While I grew up in Texas, my journey of teaching and learning has taken me through five states, as well as given me the opportunity to teach in the public and private settings. I enjoy watching the “aha” moments in the classroom and recognizing each student’s best learning environment.
